Walk

LAKE MOLVENO

tour around the lake, from Molveno

Beach
of Molveno

Lake Molveno is located in the valley between the Brenta Dolomites and the ridge of the Panagella. It measures about 4.5 Km of length and 1.5 Km of width, thus ranging among the largest lakes of Trentino.

It is possible to make a complete tour of the lake, along a wide and easy path, essentially flat, except for a few gentle ups and downs. However, you should not underestimate the circumference of the lake, because it takes more than three hours to complete the tour. On the other hand, the route offers beautiful views of the lake, the town of Molveno and the Brenta Dolomites.

Here is described the counter-clockwise tour.

Access

You can park in a large area near the town of Molveno.

Route

From the parking lot, reach the beautiful beach, then walk along it to the south, up to its end, where a small bridge gives access to a trail, which soon after enters a nice wood:

On the western shore of the lake the trail remains mostly at some distance from the shore, proceeding in the shaded forest, but often offering very picturesque views of the lake:

You cross a Roman bridge; on the right side the Rio Ceda, one of the tributaries of the lake, falls down along the rocks:

Later you arrive at a location called Dos Corno, a point slightly higher than the rest of the way, and located on a promontory that juts out into the lake. You can enjoy beautiful views of the lake and the town from this area:

A fork at Dos Corno leads on one side to the ruins of the Forts of Napoleon, on the other to the restaurant of the same name.

Continuing, however, you reach a water plant, an excellent balcony for a view of the lake:

Continuing on, you reach the southern end of the lake, where the trail runs along the beach:

From here starts the east side of the tour, that runs more along the shore, overcoming a couple of steeper coast sections on metal bridges:

Continuing, always along the lake, you go past a few isolated beaches:

The view from this area is also beautiful, on the lake, the town, and the Brenta Dolomites:

The path then crosses the road, continuing for a good length upstream of it, then it crosses it back, finally returning along the shore, now near the village:

Shortly after, you will reach a road bridge, which you can use to shorten a bit the route, which otherwise leads North in a narrow and secluded branch of the lake, which you cross over two charming wooden bridges:

From there you proceed to the South again, along the lake, near the village, passing a stretch of beach, and then along the harbor:

Right after that you cross the bridge over the Rio Massò, another tributary of the lake:

Finally, you go along another stretch of beach, until you return to the point where you started the tour.
